[NU Sports] Remind me again who we should be rooting for tonight

Just wanted to correct one thing. Yes, with Iowa's win today all but
certain, they can and probably will be chosen ahead of us by the
bowls, but with our win today, we can't possibly fall below the Champs
Bowl. If Iowa is picked ahead of us, they will be picked ahead of us
for either the Outback or the Alamo Bowl. Then we'll either land in
the Alamo or Champs. I'm hoping for the Champs.

So the only thing left open after tonight is whether we want two Big
Ten teams in the BCS. I think either way, we're likely headed to the
Champs Bowl, so it probably doesn't matter.

Scenario 1: PSU and OSU get into the BCS. Then MSU to the Capital
One, Iowa probably to the Outback. Then, the Alamo pick gets
interesting. I had thought that we would then be a lock for the
Alamo. But based on my post earlier this week, apparently if the Big
Ten gets two BCS bids, then the Alamo is not constrained by the 2-loss
selection rule. So the Alamo could pick Wisconsin at 7-5 over the
Cats at 9-3. That would be great in my mind, because then we'd be a
lock for the Champs, where I'd rather see us play. The Champs won't
be able to pick Minnesota over us, because it is bound by the 2-loss
rule.

Scenario 2: OSU does not get into the BCS. Then OSU go the Capital
One, MSU to the Outback, and Iowa presumably gets picked over us for
the Alamo. Then the Champs must pick us over Wisconsin or Minnesota.

IF you assume that Iowa will be selected ahead of us, then Scenario 2
(where OSU does NOT get a BCS bid) is more favorable because it's
impossible that we would go to the Alamo and would be a lock for the
Champs. This also assume that you're like me and really do not want
to see us in the Alamo Bowl.

Either way, if you assume Iowa gets picked ahead of us, it looks like
we're headed for the Champs Bowl, Saturday, December 27, 4:30 pm EST
in Orlando, Florida, televised on ESPN. Likely opponents appear to be
Florida State or Miami.
