[NU Sports] Scary article in the Sun-Times

Now, just to be fair to my former home state ... :)

I think Detroit is getting a bad rap (not to say Toronto isn't a great place either). For a "minor" bowl, it makes good sense:

- Fans get excited about big travel for big bowls but don't always want to travel for smaller bowls after a 7-5 season or so. So Detroit makes sense in that MAC fans and Big Ten fans can get there within a day's drive in most cases.

- Downtown Detroit was set up quite nicely by the stadium and easy to get around (plus the stadium is literally right off the freeway if you don't feel like hanging around Greektown after the game.

- The stadium itself was wonderful - it's the only dome I've been in that didn't feel cramped ... it was spacious and had good views of the field.

Plus it's still not as muggy as Florida. :) I know, I know -- but NU's more national fan base aside, most fan bases in the Big Ten just wouldn't be able to follow their team to Naples after a 6-6 year but might be able to make Detroit.

That being said, we should not end up in Detroit this year and if we do it wouldn't be right. An 8-4 or 9-3 Big Ten team deserves a higher bowl, so it would have much more to do with us being shafted than the city of Detroit itself.

GO CATS!!!
