[NU Sports] scoreboard watching next weekend

The good thing is that Minnesota at 8-4 may be one of the few teams NU could
out-duel for a bowl bid, although you never know. If Iowa is within range
(i.e. they win and get to 8-4) they will likely get the nod over NU or
Minny.

NU's only shot at the Outback Bowl and a Jan. 1 bowl bid is for the
following to happen:

NU over Illinois
OSU over Michigan
Minnesota over Iowa

PSU over MSU would make things cleaner, but even if MSU won they could still
be within BCS at-large range (they are on the brink already). But, for that
second BCS spot to open up for a Big Ten team, the following must happen:

USC wins out (likely)
Oregon State loses to either Arizona or Oregon (toss up)

The best thing that the 'Cats can do to boost their bowl hopes is to beat
Illinois. That should be the one and only focus; after that it's bowl
posturing time. And, of course, NU fans can do their part by being at that
game to cheer on the 'Cats!
