[NU Sports] Orlando ... get ready for the 'Cats

Yes, bowls can select teams within one win of the highest available team.
Now, with Minnesota, it is questionable if that will occur, since they are
not as big of a draw as many other Big Ten schools and are virtually on par
with NU (the Music City bowl was ready to select NU over Minny in 2004 had
the 'Cats beat Hawaii). What NU really has to worry about is Iowa, who is
now coming on strong; the 'Cats must win their final 2 games and hope for an
Iowa loss in its final two games (Purdue and Minnesota) to secure that 2-win
cushion which guarantees that NU will be selected over the Hawkeyes.

Finally, I still wouldn't count out getting a 2nd Big Ten team into the
BCS. With OSU now rolling, they will likely secure a spot in the top 12 of
the BCS at the end of the year, and with the Big East and ACC not even close
to the top 12 at this point, the BCS bowls will have to choose between a
non-BCS team like Boise State (assuming Utah is the highest ranked non-BCS
team and gets the automatic bid) and a team like OSU for that last at-large
spot. And if MSU upsets PSU that last week of the year, OSU would earn the
Rose Bowl spot and MSU would likely be ranked high enough to grab an
at-large bid.

But, with 2 full weeks of Big Ten football left, there is still a lot of
football to be played, and much of this will be settled on the field.

Go 'Cats!!!
