And how many times do you see that in the college game? A lot!  Players 
are much more emotionally invested in their coach in college.  Remember, 
they chose that school (from among those offering a scholarship) in 
large part because of promises from the coach that they could one day 
play.  When there is such a radical change in the system, the players 
feel like proverbial square pegs.  Of course some of the team has given 
up.  They know that they won't excel in that system, but it's too late 
for many to transfer. The writers are just trying to sell papers and 
cater to the casual fan.  The fans that really matter, the ones who are 
booster club members and know college football, don't like the 
situation, but they understand it and are willing to wait a year, maybe 
two.  It could end up like ND and Willingham, where they cut him loose 
after three years, but no one is seriously calling for him to get fired 
after one season.
