Hi, Chris.

Ah, Ely. "The Last Great Pure Experience," a/k/a "The Gateway to
Adventure." The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is one of the most beautiful and
scenic places in the nation--It's been far too long since I've been to the
BWCA. What a fantastic job!

We will be in the midst of a couple of home-improvement projects, and have
something going on for our soon-to-be-six-year-old (a trip to the Science
Museum as part of a birthday celebration) late in the morning of the 31st,
but if that isn't a problem for your son and he doesn't have any better
offers, he's welcome to stay with us. We finished our attic a few years ago
and use it as something of a guest suite when we have company (choice of air
mattress or oversized Love Sac for a bed, half-bathroom, gas fireplace, TV)
since all of our other bedrooms now are occupied by us or one of our three
children. :)

We are in a great neighborhood (Tangletown) in Southwest Minneapolis, right
off of I-35W and just a few of miles from I-94. I was a Boy Scout too and
we love camping (just booked our tent camping trip this summer to
Tettegouche State Park on the North Shore of Lake Superior). And, of
course, we love NU and Wildcat sports, particularly football. In the
interests of full disclosure, he might have to put up with some Golden
Gopher paraphernalia too.

We're about 2-1/2 hours from Duluth (4 hours to Ely) and about 4 to 4-1/2
hours from Madison. Just let us know (the earlier the better).

-Joe

Hi Everyone,

My eldest son just turned 20 this last week and we were reflecting back on
some of our best trips to Northwestern when he was younger. My wife and I
would take annual turns taking a son to Chicago (from Knoxville) to visit
the city and go to a football game.

My son, Bryan and I agreed that we thought the best game/trip was when
Northwestern beat Iowa in the snow back the late 90s under Gary Barnett. I
thought that GB did a marvelous job of game calling; always punting away
from Iowa's all star returner.

We were there in 2000 when NU drubbed the Illini, but a game with snow was
much more memorable.

So Bryan is off to Ely, Minnesota to work as a "guide" or "interpreter" at
one of the high adventure Boy Scout canoe bases for the summer. He is
putting all his Eagle Scout training to work.

But being a poor college student; he's looking for a place to crash for the
night of Friday, May 30th, somewhere between Madison and Duluth.

He's certainly willing to share a story or two about Northwestern and/or
wilderness canoeing.

Thanks,

Chris Patterson
