[NU Sports] NU Withdraws Honorary Degree for Rev. Wright

Here is some insight regarding honorary degrees and graduation speakers.

As undergrads Maureen and I were on the graduation speaker committee for Tech.  

Basically speakers and honorary degrees came down to money.  If the person demanded an honorarium or per diem expenses they were right out.  Rev. Wright is local so is cheap to give a honorary degree to.  Sounds bad but money was the prime factor for us.  The secondary factor was politics and whether the person was a interesting speaker did not come into play.

Every speaker we suggested was shot down and as it turned out the speaker wasn't even taken from the list of acceptable/cheap speakers.  We went to Dean Krulee after the speaker announcement was made and asked.  She said that was the speaker the committee decided upon.  We attended EVERY meeting and we never even heard that name whispered in passing.
