[NU Sports] NU Withdraws Honorary Degree for Rev. Wright

NU has withdrawn the offer of the honorary degree the Reverend was to  
receive at the Commencement in June.
 
And not a moment too soon IMHO.  His grotesque statements  about AIDS, 
Farrakan and 9-11, among others, are beyond the  pale.  While I don't doubt that he 
and his ministry and church have  done a lot of good works for people in need 
in their community, he has become a  one-man wrecking crew of perhaps not only 
Sen. Obama's candidacy, but even more,  of race relations in this country, 
with his egomaniacal focus on himself and his  need to defend the indefensible.  
  Even his truthful (and  humorous) comments defending his patriotism for 
having served 6 years as a  Marine (as compared with VP Cheney's repeated 
deferments) were undermined by his  other outrageous statements.   To bestow an 
honorary  degree of Doctorate of Sacred Theology on this man would make NU a  
laughingstock, after his performance at the National Press Club in  Washington on 
Monday.  Dr. King must be turning in his grave......
