Not sure I agree there ... one because I don't really
consider myself part of that generation and still find
it, well, zzz-worthy ... also because that new
generation will apparently sit and watch cars go in
circles for 3 hours.:)

That I will give you. Joe was eloquent in his defense
of the national pastime earlier and those I know who
express their love of the game do so poetically.

However, I would note that those movies and the poetry
and everything else on "America's Game" seem to be
about a distant game in the past that bares little
resemblance to the baseball of today with 4-5
big-market teams with a real chance and juiced-up
players hitting long balls to try and capture those
short-attention-span fans. Past appears to be the
operative word in pastime. Baseball has the nostalgia,
but football surpassed it as America's Passion a while
ago.

One more thing for the movie angle is probably how
baseball is the easiest of the major sports to cast in
the movies because most players are a generally
"normal" size. Not many actors are 6'10" so basketball
movies use those lame 8-foot hoops and the only actors
who look like football players are former NFL players,
and they've shown themselves to be pretty poor
actors.:)

Oh well ... enjoy your time of the season baseball
fans (the fact that the "season" now runs from March
to November is another reason for the wane in
popularity:) ) and I do appreciate your love of the
game. I'll be in the corner watching ESPN Classic and
Big Ten Network replays of old games until football
begins!

BTW ... more "no huddle" in the NU offense this year?
I know I shouldn't be happy, but that news got the
juices flowing with the memory of those 50+ point
outbursts in 2000! Now if we can just find a
respectable D!
