We can't keep accepting this '1 non-conference game letdown per year' as a Northwestern fact.? Our ten conference mates (mostly) schedule 4 weak teams, and (mostly) beat them.? 

Losing any of the three home games (bad Syracuse, bad Ohio U, bad SIU) or the one road game (bad Duke) SHOULD be unacceptable.

Step 1 in making the program into Fitz' image should be no losses to inferior non-conference opponents - and with this years schedule, that is very doable.

I like your thoughts. Those first 4 games of the year are surely winable  but 
the Cats always tend to play a let down game. I would like nothing better to  
be 4-0, but I don't see it, so I will say they start 3-1 with a loss to  
possibly Syracuse or Ohio.
 
Then 5-3 in the Big Ten. Wins against MSU, Purdue, IU, Minny and Illinois.  
Losses to Iowa, OSU and Michigan.
