I was actually quite surprised when he retired.  If Favre had retired a 
year ago, after possibly his least impressive season in a decade, it would 
not have seemed so surprising, but to get that close to the Super Bowl just 
to fall short and then walk away seemed so un-Lombardi-like, and Favre
always struck me as a prototypical Packer.
