[NU Sports] Tiller on the way out at Purdue?

Let's not confuse the issues.

The issue of pay affect RETENTION of assistant coaches, not recruitment. The
facts are that RW had the same problem. He was able to recruit talented
assistants because they had the opportunity to use this job to display their
talents on the BT stage and if successful, move on to better paying jobs. PF
will be able to do the same thing. RW wanted to change assistant pay so that
he could keep the good people he was able to attract. Once the new AD is in
place, I'm sure PF will resume that work.

As far as PC Police being a problem, I haven't seen anyone other than you
raise this as an issue. Please put more facts behind this claim other than
the "everyone knows universities are dens of liberal iniquity" assertion.

Here's my fact. One of my very close friends just retired from NU's
development department and said that Beinen in particular, and the
administration in general, believe that a successful athletic program is a
key component in NU's position as one of the top private universities in the
country. As a result, they know they have to invest in improving the
program, not just maintaining it. The success under Murphy is evidence that
they were willing to put money behind their words. This was a huge change
from previous administrations. In the same way they are making investments in
growing the partnerships between private industry, venture capital, and
university research. One example of that is the design institute partnership
between Kellog and Tech which is widely regarded as revolutionary.

All of this is evidence that Beinen with the support of at least the board,
if not also the faculty, is quietly redefining what it means to be a
world-class institution. The results suggest that he is firmly in control.

So what if the assistant coaches get paid more than Fitzgerald. His salary
will go up in time unless NU wants to lose him. I've known several people in
the corporate world who had subordinates making more than their bosses from
time to time. The real problem will be if Beinen doesn't stand up to the PC
police in the faculty and pays competitive salaries to the coaches.
