Here in the Twin Cities, Friday's Pioneer Press had the perfect quote, as  
pertains to 'great' whatevers - in our case, Athletic Directors - 'The  
graveyards are full of indispensable men'.  They attributed it to Winston  Churchill.  
In looking it up, most other sources seem to attribute it to  Charles De 
Gaulle - 'Les cimetières sont pleins d'hommes  indispensables'    (but they don't 
seem to cite a  source).  One source even credited it to Georges Clemenceau.
 
Whoever said it, it remains true.  And it was probably true in 1944  when Tug 
Wilson stepped down as AD to take over the Big Ten.  Too bad  we didn't have 
this list back then to discuss the matter...
