[NU Sports] Hallelujah

I guess last night's "if only" exercise was an attempt to point out what this
year's team is missing - a big dominant player in the Vukusic mode.

What I think I saw last time NU played on TV [where I could see it] was an
outside shooting team with a couple of guys capable of going inside but that was
missing a big presence in the post. We always dumped on Vince Scott, but he
provided size in the middle and a 3 point threat.

That Princeton offense, which has had large parts of it adapted to the "new"
motion offense, demands a big guy who can both play inside, distribute the ball
outside and step out and shoot. It's nice if that big guy can also get inside
for rebounds. The Cats are missing that player this year.

I would propose that finding that big inside player is a tougher job than most
other basketball schemes because they are called upon to not only be tall, but
have to be able to pass the ball around. Once you hit 6-10 on most High School
teams you are usually the last guy to touch the ball, not the guy who spreads it
around looking for the open shot.

When BC and co go looking for that big man, he's not only looking at size, but
what is at the top of that size - it takes a lot of brains to play NU's post
position, and I'm sure it’s a recruiting challenge to find and get that one big
player who "gets" it.

Anyway, it appears to me that NU is one big player away from serious
respectability in the Big 10. Does Eschmeyer have any kids?
