[NU Sports] Music School to move to lakefill

Well, it wasn't clear in the Daily article if the buildings would be vacated
by the university altogether, or if the School of Music was going to move
out and someone else within the university could still utilize the
buildings. As you noted Lutkin is a very nice smaller concert venue and it
would be very disappointing to see such a building torn down. I don't think
anyone will miss the beehive. And MAB is a building with some historical
significance, but to keep it standing will require some significant effort
and funding to rehab it - so we'll see what comes of that.
Regarding Regenstein, while it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing
building, it is more than functional and is in good shape, and it will
almost definitely remain in its current condition (although possibly will be
connected with the new building and also with Pick Staiger). Only the three
buildings previously mentioned (MAB, Lutkin, beehive) will be abandoned by
the School of Music according to the plan so the new construction will
supplement the facilities that Regenstein and Pick offer. After the
completion of the lakefill they brought out the concrete to construct
Norris, the library, Pick, Regenstein, and TI - and on the outside none of
those buildings looks particularly nice - but those are things to address in
the longer term after the more immediate facility needs are addressed.
