I looked at that the numbers, but I also looked at who has been worth their stars and who has overachieved.
** Overachievers aka 2 stars players that had or are having good careers **
2002 Marquice Cole No stars, Shaun Herbert 2 stars, Tim McGarigle 2 stars, Mark Philmore 2 stars
2003 Nick Roach 2 stars, Kim Thompson 2 stars
2004 Ross Lane 2 stars
2005 Brendan Smith 2 stars
2006 Sherrick McMannis 2 stars
2007 Drake Dunsmore 2 stars
** Underachievers or people I don't recall **
2002 Joseph Ferguson, Brandon Horn(played, but not as good as Philmore or Herbert), Derell Jenkins, Rick McDole, Loren Howard(played well when here, but if one transfers they are no use to the program)
2003 Warren Anderson, Sam Cheatam, Chris Malleo(I liked the way he hit, but he could not get on the field), Fred McConnell
2004 The 2 three stars were well spent with Bacher and Mims
2005 Ramon Diaz, Chris Jeske(like a transfer an injury does us no good), Kurt Mattes
2006 & 2007 are too new to judge
Note: I probably missed from O-line that overachieved, but without watching game film it is hard to grade them accurately.

Actually, NU did pretty well everything considered. Six of the 20 players
signed were given three star ratings by Rivals, com. NU was ranked 73rd in
th country and tenth in the Big Ten. Indiana was last.
