[NU Sports] Three things the Big Ten needs

I think the issue wouldn't be the teams, but the fans.

Bears and Packers fans are used to the cold, know how to prepare for it,
and think of it as an opportunity to demonstrate what a true fan is
willing to endure to give their team a home field advantage.

Getting a bunch of college boosters to pay a bunch of money to freeze in
Chicago on New Year's is a very different proposition.

That issue, by the way, is one of the problems that the BT has with any
plan to extend the season into December that doesn't also involve some
neutral domed field.

The other challenge is that by January soldier field is pretty torn up
and can only sustain a couple of pro playoff games before it becomes
completely unplayable. They are likely not going to look kindly at the
additional damage that a January college game might bring.

Other than that, great idea!

Jeff

If I were King of the World, we'd have a Big 10 tie-in BCS game at
Soldier's Field on New Year's Day.  What's a matter USC and SEC schools;
you don't want to travel 1/2 way across the country and play in cold
weather?  Awww what a shame!
