[NU Sports] FSU--CATS WIN!!!

Just went back and checked the box score.

First half 7-14 50%
Second half 11-17 65%
Overall 18-31 58%

Clearly they improved in the second half when it counts. Also since our
2 point FG average in the first half was 33%, you could chalk it up to a
cold start.

BTW, the national average for NCAA Men's Bball free throws is 69%.

Beyond that, I agree that an above average FT% is the best compliment to
our low scoring offensive style. But then, as long as we are wishing,
annual trips to the NCAA tournament would be nice too. <g>

I don't have the stats at my fingertips, but weren't Pete Carril's teams
consistently at the top in free throw percentage ?? Was Carmody out sick
the day Carril mentioned that aspect of 'The Princeton Offense' ?

Watching the Florida State game it is apparent that Carmody is incapable
of teaching players how to shoot free throws. If NU had been able to
make at least 60 percent of its free throws the game would have been a
blow out. The inept free throw shooting will cost NU a lot of Big Ten
games. On the plus side it looks like we have the nucleus of a decent
team for a change.
