[NU Sports] Three things the Big Ten needs

A conference championship game has been more of an impediment to a team's
chances for a championship than a benefit. While there may be a financial
benefit, I'm not convinced that it would outweigh the very real possibility
of losing a second BCS berth by giving the losing team an extra loss and
knocking it out of at large contention. Another thought to consider, and I
don't think this would be as much of a problem in the Big Ten, a neutral
site game may not be the automatic sell out we think it would be. The ACC
has had some difficulty with attendance, but location is a factor for them
(playing in Florida is a bit inconvenient for Boston and Va Tech fans who
seem to make regular trips to the game). I don't know the Big XII
experience in KC, but Mizzou's presence in the game has to help. The SEC of
course has no such problems and could hold it anywhere and sell it out.
I'm also not a huge proponent of ND joining but I'm a minority here. They
actually fit the profile of the Big East a whole lot better, football
aside. Let them stay where they are. I would not want to make the
concessions that their eight year NBC contract would require. i don't think
that expansion is all that necessary, but that's driven as much by my
feeling that we don't need a championship game as anything else.
