[NU Sports] Three things the Big Ten needs

The NFL game in London sold out and it didn't affect anyone's view from their living room so I can't see how it was awful.

However, Stephen's email did give me another thought. the conventional model says that you have two 6-team divisions and the winners of those divisions play for a conference championship. The Big Ten could buck the trend but still have a championship game.

We could simply have the two highest BCS rated schools meet in the final game (ignore your feelings about how the BCS standings are calculated, you could insert the AP or another metric). So, using the BCS ranking as an example, this weekend we could have a game in the new dome in Indianapolis with PSU and OSU playing for the championship.

This would avoid the SEC scenario of having the two best teams from one division in any particular year. It would also give the schools an incentive to play tougher non-conference games to improve their strength of schedule. And, if we had a season like 1995 where NU and tOSU didn't play, they would meet in the final game.

Plus, this would send the message to ND that "we don't need you in order to have our big party at the end of the season".

The problem can be solved.

Regards,
Jim

I really hope you're joking here. The NFL in London is an awful idea and college there would be worse (not to mention all those bumblebee RVs that would sink after trying to drive to Wembley! :) ).
