Randy Peterson of the Register in Des Moines is convinced that Iowa and MSU are locks for the Cap One and Outback

He also appears to believe that Iowa could leapfrog MSU and get the Cap One (seems unlikely, but maybe that's what too many years in Des Moines can do to?you.)

Subject: [NU Sports] Alamo not interested in Wisconsin
According to this article, which quotes the president of the bowl, the Alamo
Bowl is probably not interested in Wisconsin but will select whichever of MSU,
Iowa, or Northwestern remains available after the Capital One and Outback make
their selections.

So this would mean that if the Outback picks Iowa over us, then we're headed to
the Alamo. Frankly, I had hoped the Alamo might pick Wisconsin over us in this
scenario so we could instead go to the Champs Bowl.
Let's keep our fingers crossed on the Outback.
Btw, this article also says that the "Outback Bowl appears poised to select Iowa
ahead of Northwestern," but there's no authority cited for that proposition.
