Ah, the rites of passage into the fall football season ... season ticket arrival? Check. Looking through the Sporting News annual preview? Check.

Actually, they're closer to where I think NU should be this year, having us as the "ascending" team in the conference and giving "wunderkind" Fitz his first bowl berth. However, in their league wrapup, they do have  ...

* Best QB under pressure: CJ Bacher. Now I love CJ and think he'll be the best in the league this year, but under pressure and the INTs is what killed us last year and his main area to focus on this season!

* Best fans: Ohio State. Um, have they MET Ohio State fans?

* Best mascot: Michigan State. Ugh.

* Best stadium: Iowa. This is a real laugher. In a league with so many great venues, from the Big House to the Horseshoe to the home-field edge that is Camp Randall to 107,000 people in white in Happy Valley ... and they pick Iowa? IOWA? What essentially started out as a high school stadium and was slowly filled in and connected jarringly? HAH!

I smell pigskin and Saturday morning tailgates!
