I think our student body base also has to factor in
here ... sure, Chicago may be a "hockey town" (I never
really felt it was compared to Boston, the Twin
Cities, etc. ... but I had friends who played it when
I lived there) - but our student body is not a
Chicagoland student body.

Minnesota, Michigan, MSU, Wisky, etc. have large
in-state students who grew up on hockey. Notre Dame,
while not regional, does draw heavily from the
northeast Catholic population that also has a hockey
background.

NU's student body is much more national and those kids
from California, the mid-Atlantic, etc. aren't big
hockey fans (the NHL keeps trying to force hockey in
the sunbelt but it hasn't worked). And the
higher-academic student body we have is probably more
suited to LAX than hockey or track.

I love the NU hockey jerseys and it would be fun to
have it ... but it's just not going to happen
money-wise, rink-wise or fan-wise. If wealthy alums
want to kick in to build an on-campus rink or
top-notch arena like UM, UW or MSU, then maybe we can
do it. Games at the UC or Rosemont would just be
empty.

GO CATS!!!
