Standings coming soon (maybe:) ), but with the slim
pickings this week, we're going to take the THURSDAY
night game, so make sure you get your picks in on
time.

It's time for the conference season to start, and to
once again show which leagues are the deepest, it's
the SEC and Big Ten games that really keep the folks
watching the television this weekend. Remember, picks
are due by kickoff THURSDAY.

MY PICKS
========
* INDIANA 34, Illinois 31 - Fun game with two bowl
hopefuls with high-powered offenses. Indy wins at
home.

* WISCONSIN 37, Iowa 17 - Wisky's red-out was pretty
lame compared to PSU's white-out, but Camp Randall
under the lights is still intimidating and Iowa's
reeling from losing the Cy-Hawk last week.

* MICHIGAN STATE 17, Notre Dame 7 - If the Irish are
gonna get a win before November, this is the likely
game at home. But their offense is horrible, and as
long as Sparty can hold on to the ball, they win.

* PENN STATE 20, Michigan 14 - The Nits may be the
class of the Big Ten, but they still have a giant M
mental block, so winning in Ann Arbor will be tough.
This time, though, the late pass to Manningham fails
and the Lions get the Lloyd Carr monkey off their
back.

* PURDUE 56, Minnesota 21 - That bloody train whistle
will get a lot of work this year as Minny's D may be
the worst in the Big Ten (and that's saying a lot)
while Purdue's O may be the best.

* TEXAS A&M 23, Miami 20 - The Canes at least look
respectable at home this time against the Big XII, but
ATM should still be able to power over a mid-ACC team.

* LSU 33, South Carolina 13 - If Spurrier can pull
this one off, he's an uber-genius. At least it's not
Death Valley at night.

* ALABAMA 28, Georgia 24 - Tempted to go with the
Dawgs here, but the Tide will still be on a roll after
last week and use the home crowd -- already erecting a
statue of Saban that's almost as large as Nick's ego
-- to ride to victory.

* ARKANSAS 35, Kentucky 24 - Back to reality and the
SEC as the Wildcats discover not every defense is as
porous as Louisville's and fall in Hog Heaven.

* USC 45, Washington State 10 - C'mon ... go with the
AppState size upset. I dare ya!:) Nah!

And off the board ...

* OHIO STATE 31, Northwestern 13 - The Cats should
have won last week but are overmatched this week in
the Shoe. If they want to have a chance, they need to
weather the first quarter storm better than the last
few NU teams that visited Columbus.

Picks due by kickoff THURSDAY!
