[NU Sports] Our coaching shortfalls

I agree that the game is quickly moving to the "vince young" model of QB.

The challenge for NU is that because these guys are currently "freaks" of
nature - big, fast, smart, and can throw - we are not likely to be in the
running for many of them. We are likely to get a shot at those who are
lacking in one of those categories. Since "smart" is a given, then we are
likely to get those who are slow and or small. The ones that can't throw get
converted into receivers <g>.

The problem with small is if they are part of the running game, they are more
fragile. Baz is great example of someone with great heart, not great speed,
and played hurt most of his career.

So I don't have a problem early in the season with CJ throwing a lot of
passes. That part of the game has to work anyway and it keeps him healthy.
Wait until the BT season to show the rest of the playbook.

Jeff

Well, the option is a designed run, its just that the QB has to take his cue
from the DE and CB to see what he does with the ball.

Baz did have a QB draw play, but I think McGee's background as an
option/rushing QB who was injured a lot effects some of his planning. Dunbar
didn't have that worry of injury on his mind, but he still didn't like the QB
Sneak - even though Trevor Rees was a master at opening up the middle down in
Texas [with Roberson also running thru the center of their line.]

I would like to see the QB draw back in the book, maybe its just not time to
run it. That first spring game, where CJ got a chance to show his rushing,
was highlighted by several QB Draws, but I think McGee was more concerned
with WR's back then.
