While I agree with 90% of what you wrote I just would like to add that with Baz we had designed runs, which I don't think you will see with CJ.
Options - yes
Roll-outs that turn into runs when the receivers are covered - yes
Broken play runs - yes
QB sneaks - we should, but we have refused, which I can not understand
I think this is both to protect CJ and that CJ is a stronger passer than Baz, but a weaker runner.

Well, C.J. was recruited because he was both a runner [in the Baz/Kustok] style
and a good passer. NU has concentrated on his passing abilities, but his first
Spring appearance, in the practice building, Coach Walker let him take off the
green no contact jersey - he mainly ran the ball with full contact. Not sure if
I still have the post game interview with him, but I seem to recall he was 10
feet off the ground because he was able to hit and get hit.
I also remember Dubar talking about how the spread used the QB as the 2nd
running back to open up the game for the RB and make the packed box spread out
because the QB could take off an run.
The next game, after they all watch the film of CJ and the big score,
Now, I don't denigrate the efforts of our coordinators. McGee is no dolt
[neither is Colby] - his game plans are designed to take advantage things they
see in the opponent's video. He knows that teams coming to play the Cats will
stack the box against Sutton, and play some kind of zone-man coverage to counter
our WR's. They try to disguise what they do, but that's the way defenses go
against the spread.
The way you open up the field is to pass the ball. Most of the QB runs are
designed to be on scrambles or on option plays without the fullback dive. No
dive back allows the linebackers to pursue the QB/RB Pitch guy but as Roberson
showed last Saturday, that pitch guy can really get loose if the D is thinking
pass - something set up by all the passing in the first half.
Watching the game on TV is deceptive since the camera zooms into the ball
carrier as the play develops - we never see what the guys down field are doing
unless the QB throws to one of them, or the color guy knows defenses and grabs a
replay of the wide angle camera.
I'm sure McGee is calling the plays based on what the guys upstairs see. If they
see one of the WR's on single coverage, they'll throw to him regardless of the
down because that's how the spread works - the pass sets up the run.
At least that's what it says in the book I read.... <g>
