Tomorrow, we'll see if we learned anything. Encouraging was no turnovers
and a limited number of penalties, which represents an about-face from last
year. As we know, take away a few turnovers in last year's Nevada game, and we
win.
I'm looking for a situation where turnovers and penalties cause Nevada to
self-destruct, as they're breaking in a few new skilled-position players,
including QB. Kind of a "flip" game where Nevada won and went, what, 8-4?
I'm anxious to see how the Cats handle LB Butler; one of those kind with
NFL potential. Having Rees back will allow everyone to play in their usual
positions. Look for Tyrell to bust a few big ones.
On the other side of the line, can our highly touted defensive line turn
in more than an "average" performance? Nevada mustered only 3 points on
offense in their 10-52 beat-down. Let's hope we can employ some of the same
methods as Nebraska did.
Intangibles- This is a definite circle game for Northwestern. In the last
few seasons, we've had 2 occasions to administer payback to good (not great)
non-conference teams after being waffled the year before at their house; I'm
referring to Air Force in 2003 and Arizona St. in 2004. On both occasions
we played much better, but came up just short. The Air Force game was one that
really got away.
I don't see this happening as I predict we'll win the turnover battle as
well as Tyrell having a huge afternoon.
Let's get 2006 further in the headlights; a flip from last year:
Northwestern 31 Nevada 21.

     GO CATS!!! Eric
