With the game tonight, standings may not come out
until week 2. However, the taste of first-week
football always leaves one wanting more ... well,
except in Ann Arbor:) ... so here's the week 2 lineup.

MY PICKS
========
* ILLINOIS 45, Western Illinois 10
C: The Illini gave one away last week and rebound here
in explosive fashion at home

* INDIANA 37, Western Michigan 17
C: The Hoosiers were a focused group last week and
continue to roll on the road

* IOWA 28, Syracuse 0
C: As Washington showed last week, the Cuse is a big
opponent in name only these days

* MICHIGAN 35, Oregon 13
C: Tough call here - Big Blue will either bounce back
big or pack it in and start 0-2 ... Oregon's spread
will attack Michigan as ASU did, and Chad Henne looked
awful last week - but Michigan rebounds here

* MICHIGAN STATE 31, Bowling Green 21
C: The Spartans impressed last week and it won't be as
big a margin this week, but they comfortably win again
- maybe I should have swapped Sparty and Minny on the
preseason predicitions

* MINNESOTA 42, Miami 14
C: The Gophers slept through the first half last week
and it cost them - they play a full game here

* OHIO STATE 38, Akron 7
C: Another unimpressive but solid win for Bucky

* PENN STATE 41, Notre Dame 10
C: JoePa gets his revenge on Weis running it up last
year in a jubilant and wild Beaver Stadium

* PURDUE 45, Eastern Illinois 20
C: The Boilers continue to outscore opponents

* WISCONSIN 37, Nevada-Las Vegas 10
C: The Badgers tighten up the D a bit and continue to
roll on offense as the Cheeseheads head to the casinos
early here - this one's over at half

* LSU 34, Virginia Tech 7
C: The Hokies looked overrated last week and are
exposed as pretenders -- night games in Baton Rouge
are just about as brutal for opponents as ones in
Blacksburg

* OKLAHOMA 55, Miami 3
C: This one used to be a good matchup - maybe folks
will start to lay off the Big Ten and bash the ACC
after these two ouch-babe games

* GEORGIA 23, South Carolina 20
C: Spurrier comes up just short again - one of these
days he'll pull the upset, but not yet

* TEXAS 31, Texas Christian 17
C: Were the Horns playing possum last week? They'll be
better here, but still not look dominant as the Frogs
are a formidable foe

* ARIZONA STATE 41, Colorado 21
C: The Sun Devils are quietly going to rack up the
wins against their soft early schedule this year and
if they fill some holes on D, could be a Pac 10
spoiler surprise at the end

And off the board ...

* NORTHWESTERN 31, Nevada 21
C: The competition steps up for the Cats this week,
but if CJ stays hot and the running game gets going
with Rees' return, the Cats should pull away in the
second half to get some revenge on the Wolfpack

Picks due by kickoff!
