Love all these "waves" of games coming at fans today
...

Our opponent next week, Nevada, hung in there for
awhile in Lincoln. We'll definitely be tested. Hope we
make that week 1-2 leap in our play.

And it's been fun to flick back to NBC and see the
Irish deeper and deeper in a hole. I didn't catch the
comment after the FG that Jim mentioned, but that's
classic NBC hype of the Evil Empire (though they may
not be as kind seeing as how ND's cranky coach
basically blew off the post-game interview). Enjoy
that "rebuilding year" Domers.

My nomination for comment of the day, though, goes to
the ESPN2 crew doing the Illinois-Mizzou game:

"At the end of last year, Illinois was playing as well
as anyone in the Big Ten."

Really? I seem to remember NU pushing the Ill-ini
around the field yet again at the close of last year.

The game itself has turned quite exciting though ... I
just hope the Illini are as generous in giving us the
ball as they have been to the Tigers.:) But there is
some talent there - they are just going to have a lot
of rookie mistakes as they get used to winning.

Overall, I know the big story will obviously be the
Michigan meltdown - and deservedly so. But I'll be
interested to see how Indiana and Minnesota look
tonight -- the "bottom" of the Big Ten may be better
than expected this year, with MSU looking impressive,
NU pitching a shutout and the Illini rallying against
Mizzou. If the top teams like Michigan and Wisky (who
looked so-so vs. Wazzu) are indeed a bit below
expectations, that could make for a wild year in the
conference race.

But as noted, right now we just gotta beat Nevada and
hopefully get more fans in the seats.

PS - Oops on me about the Big House field turf - I do
remember the big hubbub when they switched a few years
back now. I guess it just stuck out today with OSU's
switch.
