[NU Sports] PIGSKIN PICKS - Week 10

Standings out soon, but now for the week 10 lineup. No
Thursday game this week with VaTech's loss making the
Tech Tussle not as enticing as it could have been. But
we still have some big battles in the Big Ten, a
colossal showdown out west and some "put up or shut
up" challenges for some top 20 teams.

MY PICKS

* ILLINOIS 38, Minnesota 14 - Mendenhall wears down
the Gopher defense

* INDIANA 28, Ball State 23 - It's close, but the
Hoosiers get that much-needed sixth win

* MICHIGAN 27, Michigan State 24 - Always close in
rivalry games and Sparty's hanging saving their season
on it, but the Wolverines escape

* OHIO STATE 21, Wisconsin 7 - Slobberknocker of a
game as Bucky's one of the few teams not afraid of OSU
in the Shoe, but #1 looked like #1 last week and they
make the plays when they have to in this one

* PENN STATE 34, Purdue 17 - This could be for a trip
to Tampa and PSU might be mopey after last week, but
they won't slip up on Senior Day and they have usually
handled Tiller's spread better than anyone

* OREGON 24, Arizona State 20 - Should be a dandy in
Eugene as the Devils are for real and one heck of a
second-half team ... but the Ducks are at home and a
win here might jump them over LSU in the BCS.

* LSU 38, Alabama 24 - There will be some emotion, but
it's not like Saban's returning to Death Valley - that
will be later. Tempting to go with the upset, but the
Tigers rebound from a slow start and outscore the Tide

* BOSTON COLLEGE 17, Florida State 12 - Another
tempting upset, but there's a charm around BC this
year and they're at home. Maybe at Clemson they'll
fall, but they get another win here

* OKLAHOMA 49, Texas A&M 14 - The Sooners love the
primetime lights and say goodbye to Coach Fran in
blowout fashion - but they need LSU or Oregon to lose
to have any BCS title hopes

* RUTGERS 27, Connecticut 10 - Ding dong ... it's
midnight in Stoors and the whole darn conference
continues to be overrated

And off the board ...

* NORTHWESTERN 31, Iowa 30 - Both teams need this one
for bowl position and the Hawkeyes come in with a lot
of momentum ... but I'll go with the Cats at home as
CJ has a big day
