[NU Sports] Yanks

Actually in a sort of perverse way, I think that the Yankees are good for
baseball - at least the way baseball is played today.

Here's why I say that.

They have proven that this is no longer a game where an unlimited budget can
buy you a championship. The game is now all about young players,
particularly young pitchers. So it is much more about having a good farm
system, good scouts, and good instructors. This levels the playing field for
everyone and small market teams like the Rockies and the Indians have an
opportunity to make investments in their farm system, have some home grown
stars, and play in a WS even though their payroll is 25% of what the Yankees
pay. But at the same time, these same players still have an opportunity for
a big payday once they have paid their dues and established themselves and
legit big leaguers.

Let us hope that the Yankees finish dead last under whoever the new manager
is. Maybe some of the players whose option have run out will go play
somewhere else. My Detroit Tigers could use a couple of them.
