[NU Sports] Cardiac Cats!!!!! (fwd)

I believe that in the 2001 time frame Walker fought to get raises for the
assistants on his staff as apparently NU didn't pay the football assistants
much relative to other Big Ten teams as of that point. Not sure if that was
because Walker brought on a fairly new staff or if it had been that way for
a while.

In any case I couldn't imagine NU will have to find a ton of money to get a
new DC since I believe the assistants are only on one year contracts as it
is (e.g. no buyout) and I don't think the coordinators are being paid that
poorly. Obviously if NU went after a big name the price would go up, but
then again I couldn't see Fitz attracting a big name to coach under him
given his youth (I may be wrong, just a guess).

In terms of getting an assistant with ties to NU/Fitz, yes Colby didn't have
much of a tie to Walker at the time he was hired. But the fact is that
typically, coaches hire guys they are familiar with - look at all of the
former NU guys over at EMU that we'll be facing this Friday. I'm sure when
a coach starts his search he either starts close to home or goes after a big
name, but just like in virtually every other job field if you already know
the guy who's hiring it puts you above the rest of the competition.
