[NU Sports] Cardiac Cats!!!!!

I think it is a bit premature to begin discussing coaching changes here at
NU (given that the season isn't even close to over), although I think almost
every single Wildcat fan wants to see defensive coaching changes this
offseason. Given that, the list has to include Ron Vanderlinden (now LB
coach at PSU, although he seems to be happy he was the DC in 95-96), Vince
Okruch (DC following Vanderlinden, who is now on a seemingly mysterious
leave of absence from the DC position at Illinois), and Randy Bates (now LB
coach at NU, formerly DC at Louisiana Tech). Each of these guys has a
personal connection with Fitz (very important when selecting staff members)
and NU. Outside of that I have no clue, and a lot depends on connections
with Fitz (which doesn't extend very far since he is still relatively young)
and maybe Mark Murphy (who has a number of connections from his NFL days and
previous AD jobs).

This is purely speculation, though, and for now the job still belongs to
Colby - and should remain so for the rest of the season. I am proud of the
fact that NU doesn't have knee-jerk reactions by firing coaches and ADs (see
Nebraska) mid-season leaving recruiting and the prospects for the current
season in that wake.
