[NU Sports] Uh Oh! BCS Poll Warnings

Jonathan,

Great point!

It's not just NU, BTW. Same thing is happening here in Michigan to Michigan
(one of those that we'd like to see get a BCS bowl and beat OSU).

I just talked with a couple of "casual" college football fans who said that
they normally are getting excited about bowl prospects for Michigan around
now, but there has been so little Michigan football on the TV combined with
their early season stumbles, that these guys have turned their attention to
the Red Wings. At least they are on basic cable.

I'm also starting to believe that the lack of BTN distribution is really
starting to kill the Big Ten teams in terms of national attention. If NU's
last 2 games were on an ESPN affiliated network you bet more highlights would
have been shown across the country. But really, we'd be seeing many more
votes for Big Ten teams in the polls - instead many of the pollsters are left
in the dark and we don't see too many plays in the national highlight reels
(which probably have more impact than you would think/hope).

Of NU's first 9 games this year 7 have been on the BTN, 1 on ESPN, and 1 on
ESPNU (who has distribution almost as pathetic as the BTN). And the final 3
games look BTN-bound as well. For those who can't make it to the games that
equals a lot of TV sets tuned to other games.
