Bacher was terrific in his decision-making, leadership and execution & he had good luck on his side on the rare occasion when he threw into traffic. His ability to pinpoint the passes to avoid the defense and allow his receivers to be the only ones with a good shot at the catch was outstanding - - and they made the plays to reward him. His many targets' sure-handedness and smarts were very, very impressive. The offensive line play was inspiring. Omar Conteh was explosive. It was great that the Cats were able to pick up for a place-kicker who had his first bad day of the season. And NU's one fumble ended up in NU hands. Great to get that blocked punt, even though it didn't result in points. And the OT stop on defense after another NU offensive gem...what can you say? Airing it out, never trailing - - despite MSU's big output, avoiding turnovers and overcoming a missed extra point, a botched hold on a potential lead FG & a blown kick on a game-winning FG all contributed to making this one a memorably enjoyable triumph!
Can't wait to be there next week for my 25th reunion and a shot at Minn, which - - for you NU history buffs out there - - was the 1982 victim when NU ended a seemingly forever Big Ten losing streak after knocking off NIU to end the NCAA-rec 34 gm overall losing streak. Coach Joe Salem, postgame to this WNUR reporter, in answer to the question "what does this NU win and end of its streak mean for the Big Ten?" said, "it means we stink."

An exciting game by two excuse-me defenses, as in, "Excuse me, sir, for
attempting to impede your progress. I will now release you so you may
continue your pell-mell dash down the field. Have a nice touchdown." Back
to football 101 for both defenses.
C. J. was like ice under fire. And either our wideouts are faster than I
thought, or MSU has a really slow secondary.
