Well, as others have mentioned, you could only have
two and NU-PU were left over. I'm sure it helped that
Purdue is our closest rival in terms of mileage as
well.

Yes - while Wisky-NU have been good rivals in recent
years, their series with Iowa and Minny go further
back (and it looks like their Illini rivalry --
playing off that Bears/Packer hatred -- is heating up
again:) ).

Don't stop there. Minny plays for trophies with
seemingly everyone in the league. I guess they had to
narrow it down and probably forgot what the little
brown jug looked like at that time.

I'd be interested to know how the SEC does it with two
divisions. I believe the Big XII is totally random on
who misses who with each division, but the SEC I know
kept some rivalries (such as Tennessee-Alabama)
despite being in different divisions.
