Jeff and list friends,

Not sure where you're going with asking "what if" questions concerning
academics/# of scholarships. Dennis does present a black/white case: We are
trying to beat teams composed with 3-5 star recruits with our 1-3 stars. If we
do this on a long term basis, we will lose more than we will win. It's
really that simple.

You saw the Nevada game. This was an aha! type of game that proved that
our OL and DL's were not that good. As I'm pleased that the overall
performance increased considerably vs. Mich., attrition is starting to take it's toll.
Now Brendan smith has gone down.

We should all remember that Coach K. at Duke gets a marginal student every
once in a while, and I don't see Duke going "down the drain." These are
students who don't have "off the chart" SAT's, but get decent grades and work
hard. What would be wrong with admitting this type of student?

As far as our "worthiness" in the Big 10, we've finished 29th and 31st in
the Director's Cup the past two seasons, so we're doing something right,
somewhere. But back to the football question. I believe that starting this week
we'll get start getting some well needed wins. My thing is this: we need to
go 2-1 the next 3 games, period. 3-0 would be nice, but out of Iowa,
Indiana and Ill-noise, there's 2 wins in there some place. BTW, anyone hear if
Sutton will play?

As always, thanks for letting me share. GO CATS!!! Eric
