Art,
Your "dream conference" is a very interesting concept, albeit quite radical
in some respects, but why limit it only to football? If there's any sport
where NU certainly doesn't measure up to Big Ten standards, it's Men's Hoops.
And as for other sports, NU and its new conference mates can hold their own
in many of them.

By the way, speaking of Hoops, how come the deafening silence here in terms
of today's resounding victory for one of our all-time greats in Women's
Basketball, Anucha Browne Sanders? I met Anucha at NU Sports Night in NY over
Summer, the annual NU Club of NY event. She was impressive then, and knowing
what I knew about the case, and about discrimination cases in general (as my
partners do a lot of them, and I am sometimes involved), I was not surprised
that Madison Square Garden, James Dolan (one of the worst owners in
professional sports, a one-man wrecking crew), and Isaiah Thomas got creamed by the
jury. This was a train wreck waiting to happen, and the arrogant defendants
spurned settlement and now are publicly humiliated and stand to be much poorer as
well.
