My scorecard on NU AD's since I joined the family (Fall 1980 - biased, and
subject to poor memory)

John Pont - BAD - probably a nice guy, but the appointment was the typical
(for those days) lifetime achievement award, when a coach would get kicked
upstairs. He still presided over some very dark days.

Doug Single - GOOD - I remember the heady days when Single brought in Denny
Green, and when we would see Single sitting on a strange sofa in McGaw Hall at
basketball games. He did start the program back on the road to recovery,
and his later posts (rebuilding SMU after the death penalty, Special Olympics
CEO), show he was skilled at what he did.

Bruce Corrie - AVERAGE - I don't remember much good about Corrie, but I
don't remember much bad, either. A better appointment might have made better
progress across all programs.

Slick Rick - GOOD/BAD - We did achieve some great things during the Slick
Rick era, but there were some bad things (his onfield 'Notre Dame' slip of the
tongue). He didn't get the nickname by accident, clearly. I am also bitter
that he converted our excellent box seats in the upper deck to bench seats,
all in the interest of the almighty dollar.

MM - GOOD (with a few hesitations) - presided over success in many programs.
Some concerns did remain however. He did allow the Mens Basketball program
to become more and more irrelevant, and he did not address falling
attendance at Ryan Field. But overall, more positive than negative.

Did I miss anybody ? I seem to recall Bill Foster filling in as an interim
at some point, but the grade would have been the same (BAD) as his 'waiting
for a pension' tenure as basketball coach.
