[NU Sports] AD Replacements

The thing is, the Athletic Director position is about a lot more than just
football, and I think what Murphy has done is shaped a well-rounded athletic
program at NU while still paying attention to football (since his personal
background is in football, of course). Obviously basketball is still
lacking, but he has the entire program headed in the right direction.
Will NU be able to pull a current high profile AD in? No. Will they be
able to pull in a big name from a higher level or a former coach? No.
Personally, I don't think they should, either. They made a great call
bringing in Murphy from Colgate, a smaller/lower profile position and
letting him develop at Northwestern. I hope that Northwestern would like to
continue this by bringing in someone who will continue the work that Murphy
has already started - which means someone with the same philosophy of how to
run the department and not someone who will come in and shake things up
(well everything except basketball which needs something shaken up). Also,
it would make perfect sense to bring in someone with previous AD or athletic
administration experience and not just some "name" who was a coach at NU or
elsewhere recently.
Anyways I am confident that the university will make a wise choice and will
not cave in into our (fans') rumblings. Hopefully Murphy himself will help
out in the transitional period and point out some good candidates. Anyways
best of luck to him - and he deserves a promotion and a chance to excel at a
higher level - I think most if not all of us would take the chance if were
put in the same situation.
