[NU Sports] Murphy to Packers

I agree that an inspired choice is important but under no circumstances
should that be the Duke AD. He has done nothing but cover himself and his
institution in shame and disgrace. Alleva was the first Duke official to
mishandle the lacrosse incident but not the last. Not only did he disgrace
himself there, firing the lacrosse coach for no reason among other mistakes,
he has hired two of the worst football coaches Duke has ever had.

There are some inspired choices out there just as Murphy was, it's just that
Alleva isn't one of them, nor do I think Barnett is. He hasn't shown a
particular gift for being an administrator. Approaching Stanford's AD is a
good idea and Bienen made a good choice with Murphy and is likely to find a
good successor. Losing Murphy is a hit but also an opportunity.

We need an inspired move at AD - something like the inspired moves Rocky

Wirtz has been making with the Chicago Blackhawks (stealing marketing guru
John

McDonough from the Cubs). How about Ron Guenther for AD ? Gary Barnett ?

Stanford's AD ? Duke's AD ? Southern Cal's AD ?

No sense looking at this as a negative - we have to look at it as an

opportunity for an inspired choice, and Bienen is as likely to make an
inspired

choice as anyone.

(The cynic in me wants to kick Bill Carmody 'up' into the AD's office - and

get him off the basketball court...)

PS - has anybody heard from Doug Single lately ? or Bruce Corrie ?
