[NU Sports] Murphy to Packers

Doug Single! Yikes. What a scary man he was! Always got the feeling he was
making it up as he went along! Rumour was he was having an affair with the
Lady Cat Coach (who I adored, Jalinda Davis) which may have accelerated  his
departure. Francis Peay was his choice...no? Let's hope the next AD emulates
someone other than him. Of course, he was the one who pushed to make Willie
a real part of the Wildcat team (adding three suits and putting him at more
games)

Anyone notice today that Anucha Browne became head of marketing at
University of Buffalo? Odd, considering she was just awarded 12 million
(after contingency and/or lawyer fees and then taxes, probably more like 4
million). I don't know that with that kinda of stash I'd move to Buffalo
(unless her family is there). I will say that I am intimately involved in
the MSG scandal and can say that while I'm happy she took the high road
after her victory by making folks look at the very real issue of harassment
in the workplace, I know for a fact that she is not clean as a whistle in
all this and I wonder if that had something to do with her ending up in
Buffalo. Believe me, I am not defending Messrs. Thomas or Dolen, I just know
that in this whole scenario there were no winners and the biggest losers
were the employees and fans of MSG and the Knicks. How Thomas has kept his
job is just unbelievable.

So...add Dolen and Thomas to the list of people NOT to use as role models
when seeking the next AD. Plus I don't think a Knicks mascot will help
attendance at MSG any.

We need an inspired move at AD - something like the inspired moves Rocky  
Wirtz has been making with the Chicago Blackhawks (stealing marketing guru

McDonough from the Cubs).  How about Ron Guenther for AD ?  Gary  Barnett ?

Stanford's AD ?  Duke's AD ?  Southern Cal's AD  ? 
 
No sense looking at this as a negative - we have to look at it as an  
opportunity for an inspired choice, and Bienen is as likely to make an
inspired  
choice as anyone.
 
(The cynic in me wants to kick Bill Carmody 'up' into the AD's office - and

get him off the basketball court...)
