I would further make the point that if NU can come from the despair that was the football program for so many years, where over 80 athletes are needed, certainly it should be possible to rebuild a basketball program that requires 14.
C'mon folks, don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Sure, both men's and women's hoops perennially
struggle. Fine.
Baseball is mediocre but competitive. Ditto football,
maybe a tad above mediocre there.
But in both swimmings, wrestling -- where this could
be a VERY special season -- men's soccer, and softball
NU does just fine or better in the conference. Men's
swimming, softball, wrestling, men's soccer and
(non-BT) sport women's lacrosse have been nationally
competitive or better.
Bad basketball is no reason to leave the Big Ten.
