The bright spot on NU's athletic marketing is their long time relationship with
the Trib and WGN. While Fitz doesn't have a TV coach's show, he does appear with
Spike and Kaplan regularly.
The sad thing is that the Trib is losing circulation, and WGN is just one of
many, many sports voices in Chicago now.
For some reason, the Sports marketing guys seem to be afraid to get their story
out, closing innumerable practices, and citing space restraints for limiting
access to the coaches.
Unfortunately, NU is probably considered an elitist north shore institution in a
long time blue collar town. No sure how you break that down except by winning
more games than we lose, something that RW and now Fitz is trying to do.
With Notre Dame down, this was our year to take that giant leap in the sports
sections. Illinois got there first with a true Cinderella season instead.
