[NU Sports] motor city

Out of close to 58,000 votes, that's not too bad (when I voted now, NU was
at 50%, followed by IU at 30% and MSU at 16%). As Jonathan points out,
there's probably an element of "who wants it more," with NU fans voting
multiple times. Of course, NU also led the Big Ten in total offense this
year, so most people probably would prefer to see those fireworks despite a
lousy defense . . . as opposed to Iowa's conference-worst offense but decent
defense, for example.

As a marginally-related aside, I thought the stat they discussed (maybe as
the AFLAC trivia question?)--about Bacher's three-game stretch earlier this
year being the second-most passing yards in three consecutive games in Big
Ten history--was pretty interesting. Drew Brees had more passing yards in a
three-game stretch in 1998, but only by a handful of yards.

If Bacher can cut down on the INTs, next year he could be really impressive
(since I guess being the conference leader in total offense was only good
enough for All-Big Ten Honorable Mention), especially with a good group of
returning receivers--hopefully including Andrew Brewer--and Sutton and
Conteh to provide good balance and keep defenses honest. The only big
question for me is the OL, with Rees, Thiry, and Crum gone after this
season. Will Bacher get the same level of protection he got this year, and
will Sutton/Conteh have the same size holes through which to run?

No All-Big Ten First- or Second-Team players from NU this year. When was
the last time that happened?

On defense next year, I think we improve just about everywhere but at MLB.
Hope springs eternal.

Go 'Cats!

It's amazing that more voters wanted to see NU than MSU. I'm not sure what
that says about Spartan fans unless they expect to go to a better bowl.
