[NU Sports] Attendance

I think that it is all part of the same attitude of confrontation rather than
cooperation.
Ann Arbor is a very affluent community too, yet they not only tolerate but
welcome the 100K that show up for every home game. It makes the city pretty
much grind to a halt a couple of hours before the game and a couple of hours
after the game, but most realize how much money those folks bring into the
local economy and as a result subsidize their cost of living.
If NU were the primary tax payer for Evanston and as a result the city had
New Trier quality schools while the homeowners were paying Niles-type
property taxes, I suspect that they would feel differently about things like
night games too.
Of course the downside of something like that is that parents who were
sending their kids to NU would end up paying even more ridiculous tuitions
than they do now.

I know someone who lives about 3 blocks from the stadium, according to him
additional night games will be over the bruised and battered bodies of the
neighborhood association. (He'd be in favor of it, but he's someone whom I
met at NU, most of the people living near the stadium have no ties to the
school.)
I still remember the 'fire truck donation' indident, which did little to
appease the sour relationship between NU and the city of Evanston.
