NU does recruit minorities and in some tough areas. I remember Barnett talking about a NU player that he got out of a tough area in LA who had never met a white person in the normal course of events. Barnett hooked him up with a minority alum who ha played football at NU. This mentor called the kid every day to make sure that he was up and on his way to school and kept close tabs on him. The kid graduated by the way. That is what needs to be done. If a kid hasn't been exposed to anything but a slum existence he is pretty much screwed. One of the Michigan Fab Five went to Detroit Country Day School and afterwards commented that had he not gone there he would never have been exposed to museums, etc. Same concept.
