Last night's loss to Stanford was played by the same sort of Bill Carmody
team we've seen since he arrived: well coached, hustling, and short on
physical size and skills. They played good fundamental defense but
ultimately were about as inpenitrable as a wall of Legos trying to contain
an Abrams tank. On offense, they have no inside game that doesn't involve a
back-pick, can't finish a fast-break, and fail to convert free-throws, which
on its on would have made victory possible last night. This team continues
to scream for a good center and a slashing small forward but, as usual, came
up short in the recruiting department. They will win a few games when they
play at their best, but there will be joy in neither Mudville nor Evanston
again this season.
