[NU Sports] Mike Thompson era begins vs. Stanford

I only saw the second half and was treated to a show from NU's freshman guard from the Chicago Public League, who shows plenty of guts & guile and looks like a dynamic player.  Hope that his career is immeasurably better than another M. Thompson's was after a promising debut for NU, years ago.

Cats gave a determined effort and were in it late, despite a ridiculous height disadvantage and getting down by double figures in the second half.  The loss of Coble is a crusher, and everything will have to fall just right for this group to post significant wins.  If the missed foul shots continue, the outlook will be bleak.
 
But this game, albeit a loss, provided some encouragement and excitement.  There were strong signs of an improved Sterling Williams and that the rest of the Cats' tenacity and teamwork might provide a few thrills. 

The Big Ten Network tonight is like an NU alumni-fest - - alums Dave Revsine & Shon Morris on NU game telecast, followed by alums Ann Kreiter & Tim Doyle on Big Ten Tonight.
