[NU Sports] I see an 8th Bowl spot slipping away...

The otherwise politically correct NU administration has been strangely  
silent on the so-called tomahawk trophy.  Sioux has a negative  connotation - the 
term 'sioux' is derived from 'Nadouessioux', a term  meaning 'snakes' or 
'enemies', applied to the Lakota people by the Ojibwa  people.  There is also no 
evidence that the original Illini people ever  used tomahawks.
 
While we should have a trophy, it should not be weapon-based, historically  
inaccurate, and use a negative term for a people.  I have e-mailed  President 
Bienen once or twice on this...I imagine it quickly found its way to  his 
recycle bin...
